Causes of Mortality in Low Birth Weight Babies at a Tertiary Care Hospital

Introduction: Decreasing the neonatal mortality has been a major concern to decrease under five rate. Low birth weight (LBW) and prematurity related deaths account significant percentage of all worldwide. Causes in LBW babies are not well documented. Hence this study aims determine causes among at Patan Hospital, Nepal. Method: It was retrospective observational done Department Paediatrics, Lalitpur, The period three years from April 2017 March 2020. All born within were included. Perinatal audit case records reviewed necessary data extracted. Results analyzed using appropriate tools. Results: Total 3028 which 13% live births. Deaths 83 comprising rate 26.7 per thousand Among 76% babies. Sixty very died contributed 55% total deaths. Mean 1185 grams, median 1045 with standard deviation 571 range 500 2484 grams. Respiratory distress syndrome (35%), sepsis (29%), congenital anomalies (23%) asphyxia (12%) most common mortality. Conclusions: Improved care special focus extremely might help reduce
